Class Details

‘Find yourself a place in the universe’, she said, ‘a place where the dirt feels like goodness under your feet.’

– Pam Houston (Waltzing the Cat)

What places have shaped you as person? Where do you go to feed your true self? In this three-hour workshop we’ll bring place to the forefront of our writing. We’ll look at examples of memoirs and personal essays that successfully bring the physical world alive and practice going deeper into place in our own writing. This class is open to all experience levels and will involve a combination of close-readings of book excerpts and essays, discussion, and three guided writing exercises.
