Within the branches

"There, do you see it?"

Elloise lay hidden amongst the backdrop of green, a calico pink nose and swishing tail perched with the layers. Her nose perks and gives two gentle, alert sniffs. A small bird arrives just out of reach, singing a call to its tribe. A slow, meticulous step moves Elloise towards the gray and red cardinal. Tweeting away, the bird's orange crest becomes a comb over as I slip inside the hungry cat. A Presidential call, a fantasy of patricide calls me forth. I emerge from the branches and leap, face first into the open air, claws bone white and belly swaying. The fantasy dissolves, no impeachment or resolution to sate my lust, and I free fall.
