We Cannot Smell The Sulfur

The Devil came around one day, looking for a place to play.
He thought he saw an opening in the office of the NRA!
He whispered softly into the ears of the ones who took the dues,
I’ll make you rich beyond your years,
If you just bid my do!

We cannot smell the sulfur lingering in the air
When it’s mingled with the smell of money
Drawing us to the snare!

Accept the payments as you are, your members are so strong,
Yet offer your support to the richer ones, the ones who make the guns!
Soon you’ll see the money come and the powerful will fall,
You’ll have them well within your grasp,
You’ll have them one and all!

We cannot smell the sulfur lingering in the air
When it’s mingled with the smell of money
Drawing us to the snare!

What care you of the carnage that comes from open and free will,
With no rules to bar the sale of those awesome guns that kill?
Men and women have already died to protect your rights for you.
I ask you now,
“Why not your children, too?!”

We cannot smell the sulfur lingering in the air
When it’s mingled with the smell of money
Drawing us to the snare!

The devil cares not for the rights of man, and he tramples on the truth.
He’s cunning and crafty and a sneaky old dude and his voice is silky and smooth.
He knew well that lies were told to garner our nation’s support!
He’s taken a measure of our souls,
Take care or to him we’ll report!

We cannot smell the sulfur lingering in the air
When it’s mingled with the smell of money
Drawing us to the snare!

The Devil then stepped back a bit to admire the work he’d done!
When he saw the money pouring in, he knew that he had won!
What price they pay, these fools, he thought,
For the promise to be rich.
With a toss of the head and a belly laugh, he crawled back into his ditch!

We cannot smell the sulfur lingering in the air
When it’s mingled with the smell of money
Drawing us to the snare!
