Throwing Love

For so many years in loneliness
I have thrown myself at love
pleading for adoption
afraid of being left behind
believing the movies
the happily ever after

Oh the time I spent in misery
when the infatuation wore off
and my confidence crashed
and wallowed in sorrow
until a compliment or two
picked me up off the ground

Now my toils have led to a peak
the path up the mountain
of sorrow and wisdom
to realization of self-reliant love
I stand on my own
surrounded by love
