Number One

I sit. I set a timer. I close my eyes and I open them enough to see the ground and my legs and I wait. I think. I push my thoughts to one side and I wait and I think and I push my thoughts to one side and I open my eyes and the sun rises low in the sky and I listen to the bats in the trees and my breath and I pull off my hat and I straighten my back and I close my eyes and I open them enough to see a spider dying on the ground and I take my shoe and I help it out and I wait. I think. I push my thoughts to one side and I think of you and I push you to one side and I think of you and I push you into my side and I think of you there by my side and I think of anything else and when that doesn’t work I close my eyes and it beeps by my side.
