Prayer for Today

Today I would like to nail on my rose colored glasses, stick my fingers in my ears and yell LA-LA-LA-LA, I can't hear you!

But, Black Lives Matter.

Today I would like to claim residency of another country, another planet.

But, here and now, Black Lives Matter.

Today I would like to erase the blackboard, pick up a new piece of chalk and start the equation over from scratch before it went so horribly wrong.

Because Black Lives Matter.

Today I would like to protect my heart, my child, the children that I teach, everyone I love and everyone who has ever loved anyone ever before on this planet.

Because Black Lives Matter.

My prayer for today is to be brave enough to risk saying something wrong instead of being afraid I will say the wrong thing and say nothing at all.

Because Black Lives Matter.

My prayer for today is to transform guilt, fear, grief, paralysis, terror into action and advocacy and prayer with hands and feet.

Because, Black Lives Matter.

My prayer for today is to keep my heart open, to do my part, to show up and speak out, to be a body and a voice and a vote and an advocate in my home, in my classroom, in my city and in my world.

Because Black Lives Matter.
